6m3 Cube House | Flowerdale | on the drawing board

The Cube House is a 6 x 6 x 6m fully off-the-grid country retreat located on the top of a hill near Flowerdale.

The notion of the 6m box was based on standard material sheet lengths of 6m.

The design is based on minimising wastage. The client was donated 28 double glazed window units that were going to be thrown out from a commercial building site. This formed the basis of the grid on our elevations. Client and architect are still on the hunt for more materials to be salvaged, upcycled and incorporated into the design.

Access to the top of the hill is tight on a windy road so we are designing a construction solution that minimises time on site and reduces the variety of trades. The house will incorporate Ozone Panels, which are a lightweight loadbearing structural panel and can be used for the floor, ceiling and some wall panels.

The design takes into consideration the spectacular view and a tread lightly philosophy on the environment.  The Cube House will sit on 4 posts and will have the ability to be dismantled and built elsewhere if required as part of its life cycle.
